Run Lola Run (1998)

So Lola does. Throughout the entire movie. She is played by Franka Potente and could easily keep up with Forrest Gump. In fact this whole movie is very fast.

Brotherhood (2004)

Not only in its portrayal of intense, visceral violence this South Korean war drama is often compared to Spielberg's great "Saving Private Ryan".
The narrative is handled in the same way.
When one of the protagonists - now an old men - is called by government officials and told that the body of his brother may have been found we jump back in time to 1950 as he remembers what happened.

Let the right one in (2008)

Another awards-sweeping film at fantasy- and horrorfilm festivals particularly is the Swedish vampire-drama "Let the right one in".
Now, don't feel distracted by the fact it has vampires in it, if that is not what you are generally into.
This might be interesting anyway because in the first place the story is about two outsiders finding each other and gaining new confidence from their odd but honest relationship.

Dogtooth (2009)

The next movie is an indie-drama from Greece that was a surprise at several festivals and then even received a nomination for an academy award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2011.
It's about the life of a family; perhaps the weirdest family you have ever met.

Dog Day Afternoon (1975)

Sidney Lumet passed away in April this year and therefore one of the great directors of our time.
His first feature film "12 angry men" earned him worldwide acclaim and, among two others, an oscar nomination for 'Best Director'. This film, with its most essential plot, is a truly great movie but only one among many other of Lumet's masterful pieces such as "Serpico", "Network" or his last one "Before the devil knows you're dead", made in 2007.
Many of his films deal with similar themes. Law and justice, corruption, power, the media ...

"Dog day afternoon" is no different, be it themes or quality.
